Authority Historic Scotland
Date assigned 19 March 1992
Date last amended

Description

The monument consists of the remains of a chambered cairn constructed during the Neolithic period. The site, situated on the summit of a small hill, is susbstantial, despite severe disturbance. Most of the overlying cairn material has been robbed for building houses. The cairn is oval in shape measuring 29.8m N-S by 21.5m E-W. The outer kerb retains approximately seven of its stones, several of which are upright. The chamber, contained within four central corner stones is slightly to the North of centre. There is a split slab which may have been a capstone. Many stones, both upright and fallen, are concentrated in this part of the cairn forming part of the chamber. The area to be scheduled is circular with a maximum diameter of 40m to include the cairn and an area surrounding it which may contain evidence of activity related to its construction and use.
