The site of Dun Cheirein, which stood above the shore immediately west of the mouth of Bolltravagh, is now occupied by a crofter's house. (RCAHMS 1928) The name signifies 'Crest Fort'. (Name Book 1878)

There are no extant remains of Dun Cheirein. The house which occupies the site, at NF 8578 5855, is now ruined. Name confirmed.
