Full Description

NF85SW 2 8323 5421.

(Area NF 833 541) Supposed dun, Loch na Beire, Hacklett, Benbecula. "One of the islands in this loch is said to be occupied by a dun. It is entirely covered by vegetation and without a boat no structure can be distinguished. The name Beire is probably a variant of the word Burgh". RCAHMS 1928.

There is no trace of any feature on the island at NF 8332 5422, which is completely covered with vegetation, but the island at NF 8323 5421, devoid of vegetation,is almost completely surrounded by a 2.0 metres wide by 1.0 metre high tumbled stone wall, with an artificial harbour at its N end, and a natural one at the S.
Surveyed at 1/2500.
