Full Description

NF85SW 6 8262 5236.

(NF 8242 5247?) A fortified islet is situated near the southern shore of a western extension from the northern end of Loch Hermidale, about 1/4 mile south of Rueval, Benbecula. It is reached by a narrow ridge of rock, about 20ft long, which is connected with the south-western corner of the islet by a causeway 18ft long. The isle is about 45 yards NW/SE by about 15 yards across at its widest. The remains of a wall, spread over 24ft extend round the west end and along the southern side. There is no artificial defence on the west and north.
RCAHMS 1928.

The remains of this dun are at NF 8262 5236 and as described above. The outer face of the wall is still visible in places among the tumble at the SW side of the island; there is a small chamber set in the wall at the NE end of the causeway. The original height of the wall was probably about ten feet.
Visited by OS (R D) 26 May 1965.
