Full Description
NF86NW 5 8088 6725.
NF 8083 6730 (Visited by OS {F R} October 1956). There is a long cist
(E Beveridge 1911; RCAHMS 1928) at the base of the hillock, Uamh Airidh nam Faoch. Henshall considers it to be an earth-house rather than a tomb. Five large lintels lay on horizontally laid slabs, presumably the upper courses of walling. The structure below the lintels seems to be about 20ft long by 3ft wide and subsidiary to the mound beside it, the largest of a group of turf-covered stony mounds with shieling foundations on them (NF86NW 28). The nature of the mounds, clearly artificial, is uncertain. They may well have burial cairns.
E Beveridge 1928; RCAHMS 1928; Information from MS of A S Henshall's 'Chambered Tombs of Scotland', Vol. 2, 63.
NF 8082 6727 The remains are as described by Henshall, and are very suggestive of an earth-house.
The top of the featureless mound possibly associated with the stones is occupied by the remains of two rectangular shielings and the remains of four more lie to the S and E (NF86NW 28).
The mounds on which the latter lie contain no visible archaeological features.
Surveyed at 1/10,560.
