Full Description

NF86SE 5 8664 6057.

(NF 8664 6057) The island in the SE corner of Loch Mhic Colla shows evidence of having been walled around its edge and there is also a possible boat-entrance in its south side. A causeway is said to have led to the shore to the north, but this could not be verified. The island is so overgrown as to hide any remains of buildings that may exist.
F W L Thomas (1890) mentions 'Dun Loch Mhic Coile - the door of which is still entire' but E Beveridge (1911) considers this may be a hearsay reference to Dun Ban, Loch Caravat (NF86SW 20).
F W L Thomas 1890; E Beveridge 1911.

There is no trace of any walling or harbour on this island. Beveridge and Thomas appear to have mistaken the natural stone tumble around the perimeter of the island and a break in the south for a wall and harbour. There is no trace of a causeway.
Visited by OS (R D) 13 June 1965.
