Full Description

NF86SW 34 8046 6431.

(NF 80 64) There is a possible stone circle at Claddach-Illeray, comprising a ring of six stones, 25ft in diameter, with two stones at the centre, one erect, the other prostrate.
Information from A Thom (notes and plans) to OS, July 1950.

This feature was located at NF 8046 6431. It is entirely natural. Visited by OS (W D J) 11 June 1965.

NF 80483 64291
This site, which lies on the other side of the road from the power line, has been described variously as 'a possible stone circle …' (1950) and 'entirely natural' (1965). The site in fact does not seem entirely natural, although interpretation is unclear. Of the two supposed centre stones, the upright stone does appear to be set (standing c. 0.8m high), but the 'prostrate' stone is simply shattered off the face of the first stone. This is associated with an extensive hummocky, stony, presumably glacial spread, although an area of boulders at NF80518 64293 could be set. Tehre is a distinct straight length of relict wall, double faced, running for about 10m ENE from NF 80518 64293, built of orthostats.
