The BARON ARDROSSAN was built in 1932. It ran aground at Sandray island, whilst en-route Calcutta and Table Bay to Hull. It was owned at time of loss by H Hogarth & Sons.

Surveying Details

1 January 1970 . The vessel went aground at SE tip of Sandray Island, at approximately 56 52 50N, 007 29 58W, with broken back.

5 March 1985 . The wreck of a large rivetted merchant ship is reported close inshore and well smashed up into the nearby gulleys. The general depth is about 6 metres.

10 August 1994. The site was located at 56 52 54N, 007 30 24W [world geodetic datum]. The vessel is totally broken up. Many large plates and hull sections are visible, but the hightest piece is 2 metres above seabed. The bows point inland. The boilers and engines lie on the corner of the bay. Wreckage spreads out to a depth of 24 metres. It does not stand higher than the highest rocks.
