Surveying Details
-----------------------------
19 August 1975. The remains of what appears to have been a floating dock were reported. The section is badly broken up, lying about 200yds to the east of the wreck at 57 05 56N, 007 15 30W.
Report taken from a letter from D. Sloan dated 31 July 1975.
8 January 1976. This wreck lies about 100 metres east of the tug at 57 05 56N, 007 15 30W. The inshore section is against the low tide mark. The wreck extends some 30 metres offshore resting on the rocky beach. Parts of this wreck appear above the surface at low tide. Because of the danger of being swept against sharp reinforcing bars, an accurate survey was not made by the diving party. However, the clearance at low tide was about 4 metres at the most distant parts of the wreck. While inshore, the upper surface of wreck dried about 1 metre during neaps. This ferro-concrete object, probably a pontoon or dry dock, has broken into a number of large segments, each with large numbers of sharp reinforcing bars protruding from them. Because of wash of the swell into chambers in the pontoon, this is an extremely hazardous environment for divers. The ground around the wreck is extremely foul, but it is unlikely that any vessel would want to anchor in the vicinity.
Report by ASADA exercise "wreck hunter" expedition.
7 August 1984. The site is described as the remains of a Mulberry harbour section which was being towed by tug. The section sank at 57 05 56N, 007 15 30W.
