15 August 1921. An unlit red barrel buoy has been laid 556 metres north and bearing 42 degrees W magnetic from Arnish Lighthouse, or 185 metres bearing 76 degrees W magnetic from Seid Beacon, to mark a dangerous wreck of the coal hulk BJORN at 58 11 40N, 006 22 25W.
Report by Board of Trade.
14 December 1921. The wreck is located at 58 11 37N, 006 22 39W, or bearing 237 degrees 192 metres from Seid Rock beacon and marked by a buoy, 18 metres west of the wreck.

2 March 1976. The wreck's position is fixed at 58 11 36.1N, 006 22 37.1W. Horizontal sextan angles were used; Goat island 51-58 Inaclete beacon 60-12 Coastguard flagstaff. The site was examined on the 4 September 1975 by sounding and divers. The least depth by echosounder was 6 metres, reduced to 2.71 metrs below Ordnance Datum [Stornoway]. The wreck lies on edge of a bank. The hull is intact, with approximately 50 tons of coal on board. The seabed is fine sand. The wreck may be removed by the company developing the harbour.

19 September 1983. An unconfirmed note of the existance of a wreck, giving the date of sinking was received. The wreck is 50 metres long (164 feet), 20 metres (65.6 feet) wide and in a general depth of 8.5 metres (mean low water springs]. The site is shown on detailed plan of Arnish sheds. The plan confirms HMS HERALD's details.
