12 March 1951. The dangeous wreck of the coal hulk PORTUGAL, mast and funnel showing, with 2 flashing lights on the mast, is reported at 58 12 07N, 006 22 50W approximately. Or bearing 318 degrees, 926 metres from Arnish Point Light.

1 June 1951. The light on the wreck has been extinguished. A green can buoy has been laid close to the SE of the wreck.

9 June 1952. The masts and funnel are no longer visible.

25 September 1954. The wreck's position is now classed as a foul area. The light buoy has been removed.

28 November 1969. The least depth over the wreck was 6.7 metres at 58 11 50N, 006 22 50W, or bearing 318 degrees, 934 metres from Arnish Point lighthouse.

2 March 1976. A position of 58 11 53.2N, 006 22 44.7W was fixed by horizontal sextant angles:- Goat Island. beacon 90-04 Seid Rock beacon 42-16 Coastguard flagstaff. The site was examined on 4 September 1975 by sounding and divers. The least depth by echosounder was 6.8 in a general depth of 9 metres, reduced to 2.71 metres below Ordnance Datum [Stornoway]. The seabed is mud and fine sand. The wreck is broken up and its coal cargo dispersed.
