Full Description

NF87NE 17 centred 87 78.

The Orig Paroch Scot (1854) says 'there was a church or chapel in Lingay dedicated to the Virgin Mary...' but Beveridge (E Beveridge 1911) considers this to be a misinterpretation of Martin (M Martin 1934) who stated 'this island was held as consecrated for several agea, insomuch that the natives would not then presume to cut any fuel in it'.
Orig Paroch Scot 1854; E Beveridge 1911; M Martin 1934.

None of the building remains seen on Lingay could be identified as the remains of a chapel: no further information was obtained concerning the site.
Visited by OS (J T T) 31 June 1965.
