Full Description

NF87SE 21 89 73.

NF 89 73 'A grass-covered mound 12.0m in diameter and 1.5m high. The top has been excavated revealing a sub-rectangular chamber (4 x 2 1/2m) of stone construction. No vertical slabs can be seen either in the chamber or forming a peristalith, although the extent of the mound can be traced for the greater part of the circumference by boulders protuding from the grass.
There is a smaller depression in cairn to the SE of the other which may be the remains of a chamber or an excavation (circular, 2.0m diameter), although, judging from its position in the mound and relationship to the existing, chamber, it is more likely to be a chamber itself.
The larger chamber is practically filled with stones, but there appears to be the remains of a smaller chamber inside.'
On the evidence above it cannot be said with certainty that this is a chambered cairn: it is probably a cairn with later insertions.
Visited by OS (J B) 20 June 1967.
