NF88SE 10 8941 8037.
Kitchen-midden refuse shows in rabbit scrapings on the slopes of Cnoc nan Claignean - 'Knowe of the Skulls' a large, sandy knowe, 400 yards N of the dun (NF 87 NE 20). Bone pins and human remains have been found here.
RCAHMS 1928.
At NF 89418037, at the foot of the slopes of Cnoc nan Claignean, in a sandy eroded area there is an extensive kitchen midden comprise mainly of shells, some small animal bones interspersed, and with a few potsherds on the surface.
Visited by OS (N K B) 20 June 1965.
Settlement mound, with pottery, animal and human bone, and other finds. Some material in the Ashworth collection. Now stable. Known as Cnoc nan Claignean because of a local story that the heads of people buried in the (now eroded) coastal cist cemetery were buried seperately on the Cnoc.
