Full Description

NF97SE 3 9573 7247.

(NF 9573 7247) Little remains of a dun situated near the centre of Loch Bru, and eastern branch of Loch an Duin. It is a green-capped islet, the fort occupying only part of the whole area. There appears to be an outer rampart on the SE evidently erected to guard the entrance at the end of a now-ruinous causeway (E Beveridge 1911).
The remains of the dun measure about 33ft in diameter externally, with indications of an outer wall to the SE and a dilapidated causeway 60 yards long (RCAHMS 1928).
E Beveridge 1911; RCAHMS 1928.

No trace of a dun can now be seen. A line of stones in the water to the S of the islet may be part of the outer rampart mentioned above. The causeway is now only visible as an irregular scatter of stones leading from the E side of the islet to the E shore of the loch.
Visited by OS (R B) 24 June 1965.
