Full Description

NF97SE 6 9529 7241.

(Area NF 953 724) Indications of a probable earth-house were found in the N bank of Loch an Duin, Portain, facing the causeway towards the 'island fort' which stands near (NF97SE 4). What appears to be a doorway, 22ins across and hidden by vegetation, bends westwards where it narrows to 12ins, all between what appear to be structural walls.
E Beveridge 1911.

No definite trace of an earth-house was found, but from the description given by Beveridge, its site may be at NF 9529 7241.
Visited by OS (J T T) 28 June 1965.
