Full Description

NF97SW 8 9006 7244.

A rocky sea-islet in a branch of Loch Maddy, and about 20 yards off the northern extremity of Bac a' Stoc, is traditionally the site of a dun, at one time specifically named, but which is now lost. Evidence supports this tradition insofar as wall fragments are traceable along the S edge, while less distinct remains of some interior building are apparent near the summit. A group of rocks seems to be all that remains of a causeway. E Beveridge 1911.

NF 9006 7244. This islet measures 26.0m E-W by 12.0m transversely, but the grass-covered summit contained no structural remains of a dun, although a few scattered stones were seen protruding through the turf. A rock- shelter formed by a large overhanging boulder over a low wall was noticed along the S side of the islet, and this is probablt the 'fragments of walling' seen by Beveridge. No trace of a causeway was found - the scatter of rocks in the sea to the S of the islet is a natural formation.
Visited by OS (R B) 25 June 1965.
