(NF 9017 8714) Seana Chaisteal (NR)
OS 6"map, Inverness-shire, 2nd ed., (1904)

'Seana Chaisteal' is the remains of a dun, situated on a rocky mound. It has been a circular building, 53ft in diameter externally, with a wall about 10ft thick. Except round the north-eastern arc, the outer facing of the wall is still traceable, in parts two or three courses of good drystone masonry, rising 1 1/2 - 2ft in height, being in position. There is no trace of the entrance. To the west is an irregularly-shaped enclosure, extending 30 yards from the dun. Judging by the thinness of its wall and the character of the building, it seems to be of later date, as is a circular structure to the NW, measuring 15ft in diameter. RCAHMS 1928.

The dun is as described above. No trace of an inner wall face can now be found as the interior is completely filled with debris. A relatively modern enclosure wall, 0.8m high, and the remains of at least two irregular buildings, 0.7m high, which may be contemporary with the dun, have been built on to its outer face. No trace could be found of the enclosure '30 yards to the W', or of the circular structure, 5.0m in diameter, mentioned by RCAHMS.
Visited by OS (R D) 30 June 1965.
