Full Description
NG09NW 2 0323 9917.
(NG 0314 9914 ) The site of one earth-house lies about 100 yards E of the sites of the two churches at Paible, Taransay (NG09NW 1 and 7) in the face of the bluff, above the landing place (RCAHMS 1928).
Excavated by Thomas about 1867 who found two broken stone dishes, ox bones ( ? sacrifice) and those of seals etc (F W L Thomas 1870).
The stones have since been removed for building and roadmaking. A layer of kitchen-midden refuse could be seen outcropping on the face of the bluff when visited in 1914.
RCAHMS 1928, visited 1914; F W L Thomas 1870.
This souterrain was at NG 0323 9917. Apart from one or two set stones in an eroded slope there are no structural remains, but disturbed ground above the site indicates that there may be a more extensive settlement here. A large midden with bones and pottery sherds visible, occurs in the immediate area.
Site surveyed at 1/10,560.
Visited by OS (A A) 7 July 1969.
