Information from RCAHMS (SAH) 4 July 1997
Horizontal water mill, with stones still in place. Visit RL & ME 28.8.2000
The present stones were from Dalbeg Quarry, and replaced smaller stones c. 1900. They were brought by horse & cart to Stornoway, and thence by boat to Calbost, and by hand to the mill from the shore.
c. 1902, the old stones were still there. They were then moved into houses in the village, where they served as bases for open fires.
Angus 'Ease' MacLeod, Calbost
The 6" 1st ed Ordnance Survey (1854) depicts parallel water channels with an adjoining mill race above two mill structures; one of which is unroofed. These features are annotated 'Corn Mills'. Current AP's show that both mills are extant, the southern mill (described above) is more obvious, however its channel appears to be filled in.
