Full Description

NB00SW 7 centred on 014 006

A small township comprising five unroofed buildings, one enclosure, an incomplete field and what may be a head-dyke is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire, Island of Harris 1881, sheet xii). Ten unroofed buildings, two enclosures and an incomplete field are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1972).
Information from RCAHMS (SAH) 21 February 1997

This record is refering to two different (at least chronological) settlements. The 6" OS map shows the cleared settlement at Uidh comprising of five unroofed buildings. The ruins of an earlier settlement boundary are visible to the north (see MWE150216).
These ruins have had later additions and modifications; however the overall the depiction on the OS map is easily recognisible. The eastern most structure has a tin roof on it, however it is in a poor state. The western most building (possibly a drying kiln?) next to the shore, is beginning to be impacted on by coastal erosion.
