Full Description

A township comprising five unroofed buildings, a field and an enclosure is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire, Island of Harris 1881, sheet xii). Eleven unroofed buildings and three enclosures are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1974).
Information from RCAHMS (SAH) 21 February 1997

This township is depicted on Balds 1805 map. There are eleven main buildings in this township, all are located close to the current coastal edge. Two of these structures are within the large stone walled enclosure, which suggests it was a later feature of this settlement. All the houses situated along the southern bay have had parts of there walls destroyed due to coastal erosion and storm action. There is one additional feature located on a small grassy area on the rocky headland (directly SE of the settlement); although this is being actively eroded there are the scant remains of a stone structure. The southwestern most building is a corn drying kiln which appears to have had an addition small annex at its entrance on the south eastern elevation; unfortunatley this is being impacted by wave action. The are several other features in the settlement area which are clearly later additions to the site.
