"..the ruins of huts..'The Summer Shealing'.."
Name Book 1881
What may be an unroofed shieling-hut and an enclosure are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire, Island of Harris 1881, sheet xvii). Seven unroofed buildings are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1974).
Information from RCAHMS (SAH) 27 February 1997
This appears to be a farmstead with several buildings and an attached arrangement of enclosures. The northwestern most enclosure boundary clearly truncates the surrounding cultivation ridging. Identified on Balds Map in name only as ' Strangragerry'.

This settlement is more complex on the ground and may reflect multiperiod activity. It comprises of a farmstead to the southwest, a rectangular 'sheiling' situatated on a grassy mound to the north; additional sheiling sites are present towards the north east, including a large grassy mound outside of the head dyke. All areas within the head dyke are characteised by extensive cultivation ridging. This area would benefit from a site survey and recording.
