Information from RCAHMS (SAH) 7 May 1997

Ard na Struban, post-medieval settlement, included a ruined rectangular building measuring 8m x 5m and aligned north to south, with an entrance on the east side. The walls, of drystone gneiss boulders 0.4m across (on average) were 0.8m thick, and survived to 0.8m in height. The remains probably represented a blackhouse, and lay 20m northeast and downhill of a large rectangular steading measuring 15m long and 5m wide, aligned north to south. This was constructed of mortared, shaped gneiss, and was subdivided into three. The larger northern room meausred 8m long, with the two smaller rooms measuring 4m and 3m, with the middle room featuring surviving gables and a corrugated iron roof. Each room had an entrance on the east side, with a window on the east side of the northern room. The remains of an enclosure of gneiss boulders stood on the east of the steading, measuring 20m x 10m, aligned north to south. A shed measuring 6m x 4.2m, aligned east to west, with a corrugated iron roof and harled walls stood 20m to the south east of the steading. … Despite the size of the township, of over 40 buildings both occupied and deserted, no other archaeological remains were detected…
