This 'boat wreck' measures about 60 ft (18.3m) by 10ft (3m) and the 'sternpost' stands 7ft (2.1m) above the sand. It is intermittently visible in the intertidal zone.
Information from Mr D Rixson, 26 March 1998.
NMRS, MS/829/12.

Survey and assessment carried out 2008 by Headland Archaeology on behalf of Historic Scotland. The wreck lies in the inter tidal zone towards the west end of the beach. It comprises of substansial timber elements from stem to stern, 31.7m length, 5.5 m at its widest piont. Visible elements identified were fore and after stems, floor timbers, futtocks and double layered external planking. Other finds included yellow bricks & terracotta tile, iron objects and possible ballast stones.
The character of the remains are indicative of a vessel of 16th or 17th century date; however dendrochronological sampling would be beneficial in narrowing this range.
