Full Description

NB41SW 8 centred on 408 138

What may be one unroofed and three roofed shieling-huts are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Ross-shire, Island of Lewis 1854, sheet 38), but they are not shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1973).
Information from RCAHMS (SAH) 9 July 1997

The structure is a rectangular, east-west orientated wall, built into a slopig hollow using the natural outcrop and crags around. It measures 12m wide by c. 20m long, and strands between 0.5 & 1m high. The wet lands to the west drains into the enclosure, formed by the end of the wall on the southern edge and a rock outcrop on the northern edge. A pool of standing water has formed inside the enclosure, which is acting to dam the drainage.
