A crofting township, which replaced the linear crofting township (NB45NW 58.02), would appear to be laid out parrallel to a series of roads or tracks is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Island of Lewis, Ross-shire 1853, sheet 2). The group to the N of the main Barvas to Ness road is laid out at right angles to the road and comprises two roofed buildings each with an attached enclosure. The group to the S of the main road, comprises sixteen roofed buildings and thirteen unroofed structures, two of which are annotated 'ruin'.
On the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1974) the group to the S of the road is not as extensive with seven roofed buildings. That to the N has expanded with fourteen roofed buildings and one partially roofed building adjacent to two roads.
