Full Description

Up to 0.7m depth of organic topsoil covers the top of the stack. The summit was roughly flat with only one topographic feature which may have been archaeological, a ledge descending from the plateau for some 5m on the landward side. If this had been an access in antiquity, then the lower section is lost to erosion. A small section of walling was discovered on the NE (seaward ) edge of the stack. It was c. 1m long of two courses in places, and constructed from gneiss blocks, mostly undressed. The wall continued under the vegetation for at lest 0.5m to the landward site, and may have continued on the seaward side also, but was insubstantial. Further gneiss blocks present higer up the slop may originally have been part of a larger wall or revetment. It was not mortared. One small body serd of undecorated cragganward was discovered in the soils immediately beneath the wall.
