Full Description
The cultivation rig is part of a farmstead/ settlement that is shown on the 6" 1st edition Ordnance Survey sheet 1851. A head dyke incorparating two ruined buildings, encloses an area and is bounded by the coastline to the east (the area of rigging). Several other ruined buildings are located outside of the dyke. Several ruined buildings, the rig and parts of the dyke are still visible on current AP's.
This farmstead / settlement clearly predates the the settlement (annotated 'Aird', depicted on the 1851 mapsheet.
