Full Description

'The High Church on the corner of Matheson Road and Goathill Road is a further example of a deliberate plantation on the grid plan, standing as it does fronting Matheson Road. Indeed many of the properties along this street, and their supporting boundary walls and railings, still retain their classic nineteenth century features. They delineate the extent of the town in the mid to later ninteenth century, designed as they were to line the circuitous approach road from the harbour to the lodge and the castle of Lews figures 13-14.'(E.Dennison and R.Coleman, 1997, 63)
