Full Description

Dear M/s MacLeod,

Shell Midden Hut Site - Loch Cravadale, Isle of Harris
description: on the beach at Loch Cravadale, Isle of Harris, lying
approximately 1 mile NE of the road end at Husinish

Whilst walking on the beach at Loch Cravadale we came across what appears to
be a shell midden hut site at the above location. The shell layer was visible
in a sand cliff. It was directly under a hut and was about 20 cms thick
extending some 30 yards, becoming more sparse as it spread out. The layer
included some bone fragments. There is some indication of further huts in the
machair.
Laurence, Pam & Peter Martindale 24.9.00

Site as described above, at least two structures visible, with more buried under the machair (visible in the eroding section face).
