Full Description

The settlement lies on a low knoll c. 3m high. The sub-rectanhgular structure measures 6m N-S by 4m internally. An entrance 1.5m wide lies on its east side, although this may be secondary. The walls of this building are visible mainly as grassed banks, although internal and external coursed stone faces are visible on its south side, the internal face up to four courses high. There is evidence of secondary modification of this structure. A linear wall appears to represent the creation of a smaller sub-rectangular chamber within the original building. In addition two small cells are present to either side of the entrance, the southern enclosing an area c. 2m across and recessed into the wall of the primary structure. Both cells are partly obscured by rubble. The relationship between the cells and the rectilinear chamber is unclear, although the northern cell is arguably the earlier of the two.
An alignment of boulders runs around the knoll and settlement, defining an irregular walled enclosure 45-50m across. To the east, the enclosure wall is particularly denuded, and has probably been robbed for the construction of an adjacent large earth and stone bank, probably a former township boundary. This suggests the wall to be pre-modern. To the south the wall is largely submerged in boggy ground.
