Full Description

Settlement comprising two rectilinear drystone buildings (A-B) and an enclosure (C). At least two structural phases can be demonstrated. The northern building (A), orientated N-S is well-preserved, with cobble and boulder double-faced walls c. 1.2m wide and standing up to 1.5m high, and rounded angles. An entrance, 1m wide, lies at the N end of the E wall. Internally, two chambers are present, separated by a boulder and cobble foundation, 0.5m wide, which abuts the main walls. The northern chamber is 7m long, and the southern 3.5m long. Immediately south of A, but on a slightly different
alignment, lie the remains of an earlier building of rectilinear form (B), measuring 10m N-S by 4m internally and bounded by grass wall foundations on the E, W and S - it's west wall has been reshaped to form part of wall V100 encircling the Garry Iochdrach knoll. The remains of this building are much mutilated and it's interior has been used latterly as a cultivation plot, probably associated with the occupation of A - 2 lazy beds, 1.5m wide and 3 furrows run lengthways along the interior of the former structure. A rectangular enclosure (C) abuts the W wall of building A; it's N and S boundaries are defined by turf banking 0.5m 0.3m, and it's W by drystone walling c. 0.5m high. The featureless interior of this enclosure measures 12m N-S by 8m. A stony bank 1m wide by up to 0.7m high runs between the entrance to A and an artificial mound (possible prehistoric site; V132) c. 25m to the E. Only A is recorded (as unroofed) on OS 1881.
