Full Description

SU 4:
A sub-rectangular yard, orientated from north-west to south-east, is constructed of turf with some stone in the outer face. It has no apparent entrance and measures 10.5 x 6.5 metres. Externally the walls stand to a height of 0.3 m forming a platform within the interior of the feature.
Interpretation: This yard is of typical construction for a kale or stack yard such as those found in association with pre-crofting blackhouses throughout the Western Isles. While such features generally tend to be more irregular or ovoid in shape it is not unheard of to have one constructed in a roughly recangular form. This feature forms part of Baile A.
