Full Description

SU 21:
Orientated from north-west to south-east this turf dyke runs from NF 78609 15268 to NF 78658 15195, a distance of 87.5 metres. It is located at the base of a south-west facing slope and separates areas of cultivation, SU 13, 22 and 28 from boggy ground to the south-west. Its course at its north-west and south-east ends cannot be traced.
Interpretation: This dyke is likely to have been utilised to divide the infield area of Baile 2, separating cultivation and boggy grazing. It is impossible to say whether this feature is contemporary with the other dykes in the survey area as it does not relate stratigraphically to the head dyke, SU 45/ 52/ 84. The possibility cannot be ruled out that this feature is part of an earlier field system that has been re-utilised during the late medieval/ post medieval period.
