Full Description
SU 50:
This turf dyke runs from north north west to south south east around low east facing slopes to the west of South Glen Dale Township. It is first identified in the north at NF 78913 15065 from where it runs 290 metres to NF 79051 14765 where it turns to the south-east and runs a further 57 metres to NF 79090 14716. The course of this feature to the north seems to be parallel to the course of trackway SU 15 though a seperate dyke could not be defined. To the south it is likely that the dyke ran through to the shore of Bagh Mor, however the construction of the modern road has disturbed this alignment.
Interpretation: This dyke might represent a part of the pre-crofting, post medieval field system, the line of which has later been overlain to the north by track SU 15. If this is the case it is likely that this feature seperated Baile C/D from a settlement nucleus now obscured by the later development of the South Glen Dale Township.
