Full Description

SU 54:
Located immediately to the south of SU 53 this structure is orientated from north to south and measures 10.5 x 6 metres. It is constructed of stone wall faces with an earthen core and has a single entrance towards the northern end of the western face. It is constructed against bedrock at its southern end and has no external southern face.
Interpretation: It is not clear whether this and blackhouse SU 53 to the north are barns or dwellings as both are large for the former but are little short in overall length for the latter. It is possible that SU 53 represents a dwelling with opposing entrances and that SU 54 represents its associated barn/ ancillary structure.
