Full Description
SU 69:
This stone faced earth cored blackhouse is well preserved particularly at its north-west end. It is orientated from north-west to south-east and measures 16.8 x 7 metres overall. There are two opposing entrances towards the south-eastern ends of the north-east and south-western walls. The section of the structure to the south-east of these entrances originally incorporated bedrock in its construction but during the house's final phase of use was abadoned. To the north of the entrances an internal wall was inserted creating an internal space of 7.8 x 3.6 metres entered by a single door from in the north-eastern end of the partition.
Interpretation: This house shows two clear phases of use, firstly as a fairly standart early blackhouse with opposing entrances and square ends, then later as a small space created by the insertion of a later partition, and entered through a single door in that partition.
