Full Description

SU 74:
This blackhouse is orientated from north to south and measures 13.2 x 5.9 metres. It survives primarily as an earthen bank with occasional orthostatic stones marking the line of wall faces and has opposing entrances at the northern end of the east and west walls. The northern end is slightly apsoidal and the southern end is obscured by dumping related to the construction of the modern road to South Glen Dale.
Interpretation: This blackhouse shows all the typical signs of having been dismantled systematically to provide stone and building materials for use in the construction of another later house. It forms part of Baile E.
Impact Detail: This structure falls within 20 metres of the northern edge of the proposed haul road.
