Full Description

SU 82:
Located between blackhouses SU 76 and 81 in Baile E, this drying barn, constructed of stone with earth cores, is orientated from north north-west to south south-east and measures 8.4 x 4.5 metres. It has apsoidal ends and a single entrance in the centre of its west wall. Internally there is a stone step formed of orthostatic stones immediately to the south of the door. This step has a slab line flue running central through it to a large kiln bowl measuring 0.9 metres in diameter. The structures northern end is indistinct due to stone robbing activities.
Interpretation: This barn is the only such feature recorded in Baile E and is different from those seen eleswhere in the area, in that its flue is centrally located rather than being constructed against one of the side walls of the building.
