Full Description

SU 94:
The fragmentary remains of this blackhouse are orientated from west to east and measure 15.4 x 8.6 metres. It has walls constructed of stone faces with an earth core and has been heavily damaged on its north side where the line of the modern South Glen Dale road and a water main running parallel to the road have removed much of the northern wall. No entrances are visible in the extant remains.
Interpretation: The lack of any entrance in the surviving walls of this structure suggestes that it must have originally had a single entrance located in the north wall. While much of the northern fringe of the house has been destroyed it is likely much of the interior floor surfaces and associated deposits survive intact.
Impact Detail: This site is directly in the line of the proposed haul road.
