Full Description

SU 119:
Orientated from north to south this house measures 12.25 x 6.4 metres and has walls constructed of stone with earthen cores. It has opposing entrances located towards the southern ends of its west and east walls and squared north and south ends. Its preservation is not as good as the house located to the west, SU 118.
Interpretation: The presence of a house of this style in the immediate proximity of a house of a style such as seen at SU 118 demonstrates the changing building techniques and architectural styles that overtook the pre-crofting blackhouse. What is difficult to ascertain is whether both of these houses were occupied at the same time or whether one superseded another. However, on the basis of preservation it would appear that SU 118 postdated SU 119.
