Full Description

SU142:
Measuring 8.7 x 5.5 metres this small stone faced earth cored building is orientated from east to west and has a single entrance at the west end of its northern wall. Internal a step may be seen immediately to the east of the entrance ceating a large internal platform. Several recesses or ambreys were noted in the south west corner of the structure directly opposite the door.
Interpretation: This ancillary structure does not appear to be a drying barn but has all of the features that might be expected of a shieling or beehive cell. However its location on the fringes of Baile K would seem to preclude this explanation of its form, unless it existed prior to the area being permanently settled.
