Full Description

SU 148:
Located to the south-east of blackhouse SU 147 this small harbour consists of two un-bonded stone piers of ca 7 metres in length that run from west to east across the mouth of the bay centred at NF 78875 14282. They have a gap of 3 metres between them forming an entrance to a harbour measuring ca 300 square metres internally. This harbour is tidal, and at low tide it is clear that the interior has had all stones and boulders cleared towards its east and west sides. Immediately to the north of the harbour a path leads to the north, this is sunken and revetted with drystone walls running from south-east to north-west. The eastern wall becomes dyke SU 141 and forms part of the enclosure surrounding house SU 147.
Interpretation: This harbour is located on the eastern side, within the extents of, the enclosure that surrounds house SU 147. It follows the pattern of the house to the east (SU 101) in that also had its own harbour, SU 91, located to the east of the house but within the overall enclosure. The eastern arm of this harbour could not be surveyed due to difficulty of accessing it either at high or low tide.
