Full Description

SU 156:
Located immediately above the high water mark on the north side of Saltavik Bay this blackhouse is orientated from west to east and measures 10.3 x 5.2 metres. It is constructed of stone wall faces with earth cores, has apsoidal ends and a single entrance to the west of the centre of the north wall. Internally if has a later partition constructed ca 2 metres from the east end.
Interpretation: This house suffers from erosion on its south side as it is located so close to the sea. Like any building similarly located there is a possibility that it may have been used for marine industrial purposes such as fish smoking.
