Full Description

SU 161:
The outline of the extremely fragmentary remains of this blackhouse may be seen on a low bedrock knoll located on the south side of the South Glen Dale road. It is orientated from south-west to north-east and measures 10.25 x 4.4 metres and has no other discernible features.
Interpretation: This house is marked as the barest remains of the wall cores and has been systematically scavenged for building materials possibly for house SU 162 to the east. It is possible that this building never had stone wall faces but rather was constructed exclusively of turf. It is likely that its floor surfaces still survive intact.
Impact Detail: This feature lies directly in the line of the proposed road allowing vehicle access to the new causeway.
