Full Description

SU 180:
This dyke runs across the neck of Rubha na Moine (headland of the peat) at the foot of the slight scarp rising to the interior of the headland. Starting in the west at NF 78058 14072 it runs to the east for 165.5 metres to NF 78219 14038. It is broken at NF 78186 14053 by a trackway running from north to south, it is not clear however whether this break was meant to form an entrance or whether it has been forced at some time since construction. The dyke is constructed primarily of turf and is flanked on its south side by a drainage ditch.
Interpretation: This dyke seperates Rubha na Moine from the surrounding terrain. As much of the cultivation on the headland appears to be late pre-crofting or crofting in date this might suggest that the dyke was constructed at the time of apportionment to seperate the headland from the surrounding terrain which appears to have been used as rough grazing since the start of the crofting period.
Impact Detail: The course of this boundary is cut at NF 7812 1406 by the course of the approach road for the causeway.
