Full Description

SU 181:
Constructed of stone and turf this fragmentary dyke is situated on the crest of the ridge that marks the start of Rubha na Moine. It starts in the west at NF 77999 14067 and runs for 218.5 metres to NF 78217 14032. Its line is not visible for 19 metres to the east of NF 78020 14060, for 23 metres to the east of NF 78052 14058, for 19 metres to the east of NF 78119 14047 and for 11 metres to the east of NF 78171 14043. For much of the visible length of its course it is overlain by late, possibly crofting period, feannagan.
Interpretation: Cutting the neck of Rubha na Moine, this dyke clearly predates the cultivation that visibly dominates the area of the headland. This dyke represents an earlier medieval, norse or prehistoric agricultural usage of the headland.
Impact Detail: The course of this boundary is cut at NF 7813 1404 by the course of the approach road for the causeway.
