Full Description

SU 189:
This irregular area of late cultivation consists of beds of up to 5 metres width running from north to south separated by a herring bone drainage ditch system. Covering a total area of 420 square metres it has maximum dimensions of 32.5 x 24 metres.
Interpretation: This form of cultivation is likely to be the latest seen in the survey area, representing a move away from individual had dug rigs to a larger open bed with a complex system of drainage. This area is the only such drainage system encountered in the survey.
