Full Description

E 214:
This area of feannagan is defined within seven seperate fields. Five of these are located on a small flat area of relatively stable machair situated at the foot of the slopes of Rhubhan. The final two fields are located in a low valley running to the south-east. From west to east, field 1 NF 78354 12286, runs from north to south and covers an area of 631 square metres. Field 2, NF 78375 12289, runs from south to north and covers an area of 1320 square metres. Field 3, NF 78395 12302, runs from west to east and covers an area 205 square metres. Field 4, NF 78407 12309, runs from north to south and covers an area of 234 square metres. Field 5, NF 78425 12313, runs from west to east and covers an area of 216 square metres. Field 6, located in a steep sided valley to the south of field 2, NF 78397 12281, runs from south-east to north-west and covers an area of 143 square metres. Field 7, located to the south-east of field 6, NF 78426 12274, runs from south-east to north-west and covers an area of 542 square metres. These fields are seperated by a series of low banks and deep drainage channels. Some clearance was noted particularly on the southern side of fields 1, 2 and 3.
Interpretation: All of this rigging is thought to be late in date, representing the ordered exploitation of the most fertile land apportioned within the crofts of Rhuban and Haun townships.
